Toyota's New Prius Further Develops Plug-in Model

Toyota recently revealed that it plans to take it's widely popular Toyota Prius vehicle to the next level by introducing a range of different car types at this year's Detroit Auto Show. The car maker announced plans including a 4-door hybrid plug-in, a Prius v crossover/wagon, and the Prius c Concept, a vehicle designed for an urban layout.

The Prius v will be powered by a 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine along with Toyota's current electric hybrid system. Despite being a larger variant, the new v will get great mileage at 42 mpg in the city and 38mpg during highway driving.

The v will also be equipped with the "Entune" multimedia system which integrates wireless upgradable navigation, information, and entertainment services.

The Prius c actually stands for "city," not surprising given that the car is essentially a compressed version of the current Prius. It will be designed to fit into tight parking spaces and it will also be able to drive up to 12.5 miles on electric power alone at speeds not exceeding 62 mph. As with other models, after those threshholds are broken the car will revert back to a power combination of electric motors and a small-displacement gasoline engine.
